Every season is oatmeal season in my book! There are so many kinds of oatmeal and so many different ways to eat it, its hard to choose!

Steel cut oats are the healthiest and here’s why…

  1. They are the least processed out of all of the oats

  2. They are high in fiber

  3. They are gluten free (keep an eye on the label for cross contamination)

  4. They are a good source of iron

  5. They are a good source of protein

Here is a great post on how to make the perfect bowl of steel cut oats. Click here to go to the post.

Steel cut oats are also very hearty and more filling. You can top your oats with your preferred flavors. Don’t forget you can combine as many as you would like.

Fresh Fruit toppings- Bananas, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries

Dried Fruit toppings- Raisins, Cranberries, Apricots, Coconut

Nut and seed toppings- Almonds, Pecans, Walnuts, Pumpkin seeds, Chia seeds, Almond butter, Peanut butter, Cashew butter

Sweets and Spices- Chocolate chips, Syrup, Honey, Stevia, Cinnamon, Pumpkin Spice, Nutmeg, Vanilla

Creams- Almond milk, Coconut milk, Cashew milk

For those who are keeping an eye on their macros (fats, protein, and carbohydrates), oats on their own will be higher in carbs and lower in fat grams. As you add toppings this ratio can change so plan accordingly.
